The Carolina Federation's Independent Expenditure Operations
Summary
In 2022, Ray Jarosz and Herrick Sullivan (the owners of The Grunt Work LLC) were hired by a small, remotely-operated group of community organizations in Durham, North Carolina, which were known collectively as "Galloway, Baker & Eurquhart LLC".
Ray and Herrick, taking full advantage of their first chance to create a program that they could take 100% ownership of, quickly turned Galloway, Baker & Eurquhart (DBA Carolina Federation) into one of the largest paid-canvass voter-contact operators in the entire state of North Carolina. Ray and Herrick did all of this within months, and all without their Durham clients ever having to leave their homes.
Background Information:
Galloway, Baker & Eurquhart in Durham, North Carolina, was a for-profit LLC that owned many non-profit subsidiaries, and was co-owned by two buddies. Organizations such as Durham For All, Carolina Federation, Hanover For All, Guilford 4 All, Siembra NC, and more, were all a part of their sprawling web of legal entities.
In 2021 and 2022, Galloway, Baker & Eurquhart had received money to conduct door-knocking activity in North Carolina for the 2022 election cycle, but they were having trouble getting started. As of July of 2022, they had no offices, supplies, or staff with any knowledge of what to do. This is when they were referred to Ray Jarosz via a former Bernie Sanders' campaign colleague of Ray's. The majority owner of Galloway, Baker & Eurquhart poured his heart out to Ray, and asked him to come to North Carolina. After a period of negotiation, a deal was reached, and Ray decided to temporarily move from Las Vegas to North Carolina for the 2022 election cycle.
For Ray, his first call was to Herrick Sullivan. He knew this was a golden opportunity for them to test their theory, and to see if they were truly capable of creating a better large-scale voter contact program than the industry-standard programs (all virtually identical) that had become so common.
The Program
So in the middle of July of 2022, Ray Jarosz flew to Durham, North Carolina and lived in a Holiday Inn Express by himself, in order to create this program. Nobody from Galloway, Baker & Eurquhart was involved. Ray's first move was to lease a building at 1904 Guess Rd, where he created a company 'Headquarters' (that is still in use to this day). From there, he went about the business of creating a large-scale voter-contact program that went by the name of "Carolina Federation". A few weeks into this process, Herrick Sullivan flew in from Alaska, and by August 22nd door-knocking had officially begun.
When the folks at Galloway Baker & Eurquhart first contacted Ray, they had very modest goals, and were hoping to knock at least 15,000 doors. It was already July, after all, and the person they had originally hired to do this job had just quit. The folks at Galloway Baker & Eurquhart were at a point where they were simply hoping to avoid a worst-case scenario of not conducting any paid canvassing for the entire cycle, and to be at risk of having to shrink their organizations.
However, after hiring Ray Jarosz and Herrick Sullivan, their worries were soon over, as a few weeks into the door-knocking, it was obvious the program would be a great success. Ray and Herrick created a paid canvass program that ultimately knocked over 130,000 doors in central North Carolina at a point in time when very little paid canvass activity had ever taken place in these more-rural parts of the state. This feat put Carolina Federation "on the map", and morphed Galloway, Baker & Eurquhart's independent expenditure operations into an AV darling and fundraising powerhouse.
Conclusion
This case is an example of how The Grunt Work delivers real results. The door-knocking results that Ray and Herrick's program generated were tabulated and publicized on the America Votes Donor Table Scoreboard- results that consistently placed their program as #1 or #2 in the state of North Carolina.
That Ray Jarosz and Herrick Sullivan created one of the largest paid-canvass programs in North Carolina, and did so "at the last minute'", speaks to their ability to deliver results for any prospective client.
Galloway, Baker & Eurquhart is now a lucrative holding company, with a vast web of entites located all over the great state of North Carolina.

After Election Day in 2022, Galloway, Baker & Eurquhart was able to hire 4 full-time operatives from our program, and their organizations were able to grow and flourish.
Perhaps most importantly, Galloway, Baker & Eurquhart was able to fundraise lucrative amounts of money based off of the amount of doors our program knocked during that 2022 election cycle, and to utilize all of the intellectual property, methods, paperwork, vendor accounts, building leases, etc, that we imparted, which enabled them to recreate our large-scale electoral progam during subsequent cycles, and even to locally vend these services to others.
